Homework Blog #2

In recent news, A former New Mexico Motor Vehicles Division employee has been indicted after being accused of issuing false driver's licenses. He is accused of issuing two false driver's licenses and tampering with a public record while employed at the MVD. The allegations arose from an internal investigation by the Taxation and Revenue Department's Tax Fraud Investigations Division into a questionable title transaction. The MVD is a division of the tax department. How do you think this person should be punished if he is found guilty? Also, do you think that the MVD should be better equipped to avoid situations like this from happening again? Please answer in a short paragraph.

  1. First, they should question him if he's part of a gang or a ring or something, to make sure that he wasn't doing this as some sort of bigger plan. Then, he should be jailed for six months, at least, and have something on his permanent record that prevents him from getting a job like this ever again. He should never be in charge of public records again, or work in a governmental agency or anywhere where his actions could have serious consequences. By creating fake driver's licenses, he could have enabled DWI offenders to keep driving, or under-21s to buy alcohol, which could all result in accidents and deaths. MVD should definitely be equipped to detect situations like this sooner and prevent them from continuing on.

  2. This guy definitely committed a serious crime and he should be punished with a felony crime if he is found guilty. He should spend at least 4 years in jail not only because of the crime he committed, but because he broke any trust that the public had with the MVD. The MVD needs to perform a background check on anyone who applies to work there. This guy may not have been doing the crime alone, which is why they should investigate further and do a background check on all of their current employees. MVD should be keeping a better eye out for situations like these because they had to find out from the Taxation and Revenue Department's Tax Fraud Investigations Division because they couldn't find out on their own that their own employee was betraying their trust.

  3. This is a pretty serious offence, especially now in this day and age. We have delt with terrorist attacks and are now in a war. It is this kind of behavior that can get us all into trouble again. This man should be sent to court, he should have to pay for his offences through jail time and a possable fine.

  4. It is definitely a serious accusation to say that he made false driver's licenses and if he is found guilty he definitely needs to be punished. Maybe some jail time and/or a fine would be enough, but he should be held responsible and shouldn't be able to work with something like this ever again.

  5. I think obviously the guy should get punished for what he did. At least he should do some time in jail for awhile, like 2-3 years in jail and they could put this on his permanent record. MVD should have had more control over the incident but then again they didn't know it was going to happen. Now they know what to do in the future so situations like this won't occur. Just for example they can start doing background checks on all the employees or the future employees.

  6. This is a serious crime and not only did he break the law but, he also broke the trust that people had with the MVD. If this man was found guilty, he should go to jail for at least two to four years and get probation time. This man was tampering with official documents which is a very serious issue. It would also depend on what reason he was issuing the fake licenses to suggest his jail time in my opinion. They should also do a thorough look through his past and see if this was his first offence or any other information that would shed light on his true side. Also, he should have some sort of mark on his record to make sure he could never be employed by any federal, state, or city job ever again. He would have to pay the price of working at somewhere like McDonald’s for the rest of his life. The MVD should look closer through their employee’s backgrounds and maybe go as far as to check up on them every once in awhile to make sure they are doing their job correctly. This situation was minor considering what it could have resulted to. I don’t fully blame the MVD though, sometimes you can never tell how someone really is by just looking at their resume`.

  7. This guy commited a serious crime and he should be punished. I think he should spend at least 2-4 years in jail. The MVD should think about doing something in the future now that they know that something like that can happen. Also you cant blame the MVD because they didnt even know what was going on. In the future they can do backround checks or every week check there employees and also there future employees that will work there

  8. I think this person should and will be charged with a felony. I also think this could have been prevented if the MVD had taken more care in knowing who it was they were hiring. Doing this would help them prevent things like this from happening again. I don't think this person should be allowed to hadle information such as the public record again. The MVD should more closely monitor what their employees are doing.

  9. I think this guy should probably be charged with a year or two in prison because this crime is very serious and he should definitely be punished! On the other hand he should not get that long in prison because there are much worse crimes like murder and domestic violence that the feds should be lookin into! As for the MVD they should most definitely be more equipped! They know that people will do anything they want if it seems necessary to them! They should be prepared for this kind of thing!
